I've previously owned five BMW's, including an E36 M3, and an E46 M3. I loved both of those cars. I'm looking at potentially buying a 2016-2018 M4. It just concerns me a bit that the reviews of this series are not all that great, and they all mention that the suspension provides rough ride on anything less than perfect pavement. .
I also attached a chart by time/mileage, and indicated those items where the dates are suggestive, but no need to do until they are obviously gone. Inspection I 30k. Inspection II 60k. Oil & filter change 7.5k. Air filter 2yrs/30k. Cabin filter 1yr/15k. Fuel Filter 60k. Fluids. Flush Brakes 2yrs/30k .
The most common is perhaps the Style 135 MV2 alloy wheel, similar to that used on the later E46. But an optional split-rim style 108, the “Composite Star spoke” wheel was quite often specced

The Optima also offers more cold cranking amps: 800 vs. 770 for the $199 option. James recommends the Optima H6 for our M3 as well as several other BMW models. It's smaller than the stock H7/94R battery but, he notes, the car’s battery mount is drilled for both sizes.
View 2 images. BMW E46 M3 used car review. There was plenty of rejoicing and expectation a few years ago when BMW hinted that its next (now current-model) M3 would return to an inline six-cylinder
Yes, the problem is with an accelerated wear on the bearings. There was a certain range of engines that were prone to the problem and BMW issued a bulletin about a while back recommending replacing the bearings. I think BMW published a range of VINs that were affected. Those were mostly the early models: 2000-2002 (or 2001).
E46 ///M3vert. Since these cars are more reliable than the non-M models and older models, there isn't much 'repairs' to spend on. Maintenance like oil change is $200 at the dealer or $12-16 per quart of motorsport oil Castrol 10w-60. Tires are even more expensive since they ride on 19s with wider/staggered fitment.
Quick suggestion, if you car is running poorly now that the weather is cold, replace at least the lower intake elbow, the DISA O-ring and the CCV lower oil return hose, clear the DME codes, about $50. Then worry about other things if the car is still running poorly or has additional CEL/MIL codes.
